	January Catches Channel from the "Kaskazi" CHANNEL AREA The first two weeks of January gave some strong winds and bumpy seas, but towards the end the weather and the seas calmed down giving many occasions to our fishermen to go out and enjoy their fishing; in fact many boats went out this months and reported good catches. Surprisingly the Yellowfin Tuna are still around in the Channel in abundant numbers although their sizes are quite small, but many boats had good fun and managed to catch some especially the Juniors on Rose Bud; Amongst the Yellowfin Tuna, they managed to pick up some Long Tail Tuna, which are quite unusual for our catches. The biggest YFT this month was a 9.2 kg fish caught by Alistair on Rose Bud. Also the Dorado are still around in good numbers, although their sizes are getting smaller and smaller and they are averaging around 3 to 4 kg. Some odd Wahoo have been caught from several boats being the biggest one a 25 kg fish caught by Jason on his dinghy Puju. The reef fish season has definitely started in the Channel. Jason and Mady, managed to pick up some Giant Trevallies and several species of Trevallies together with other reef fish in general, included an Almaco Jack and Rusty Jobfish. They also managed to pick up a nice Giant Grouper of 47.1 kg on 80 lbs. The biggest Gt in the Channel was a 32. 3 kg fish caught by Jason. Only two Sailfish were caught this month both on Pollyanna, one of which was caught during the Vodacom Species Competition held on 24th January, this was a 26.5 kg fish and it was caught by Abbas. The biggest catch in the Channel was Pollyanna (Jason, Mady, Hussein) with 172.9 kg fish in a day. VODACOM FISHING COMPETITION On the 24th January we held a Vodacom Species Competition, in conjunction with a Junior Fishing Comp. Unfortunately not all the boat managed to report a catch and some boats arrived late at the finish line. The first Boat was Pollyanna with 84 points (Jason, Abbas, Spiros and Mady) The second Boat was Visblick with 11 points (Johann and Anet Rheeder) The Juniors on Rose Bud had a very good catch as well which would have made them qualify amongst the first three boats with 79.5 points, but their catches could not be considered for the final result because they arrived after the time limit. The first Angler was Abbas (Pollyanna) 26.5 pts The second Angler was Jason (Pollyanna) 14.5 pts The third Angler was Anet (Visblik) with 11 pts The best Lady was Anet (Visblik) with 11 points The best Junior was Brandon (Flycatcher) 2.4 pts. 	January Catches Latham from the "Kaskazi" LATHAM AREA Only two boats went out to Latham, Mistress and Pollyanna.The Yellowfin Tuna are still around in large numbers at Latham as well, but their sizes are very small and the boats concentrated mainly on reef fishing which provided some good size fish. Many Giant Trevallies of good sizes between 30 to 47 kg were caught on Pollyanna. Two Giant Trevallies on the 50 kg mark were caught as well, one on Pollyanna and one on Mistress. The Biggest one was a 52.0 kg fish caught on Mistress by Frans on 80 lbs (Club Record on 80 lbs) Not many Dogtooth Tuna were seen this month, Pollyanna managed to catch only 4 the biggest one was a 54.00 kg fish. A larger fish was caught on Pollyanna while jigging on 30 lbs but it was mutilated by a large shark The Juniors Lorenzo Folli and Stefano Gianola joined Jason during one trip to Latham and they had an excellent trip, catching several Junior’s Club Records while jigging and several first time fish, catching Dogtooth, Giant Trevallies, Big Eye, Black Jacks, Rainbow Runners and Red Snapper. Two Giant Grouper were caught on Misterss, the biggest one was a 42.5 kg fish caught by Frans on 130 lbs line and the other one was a 28.5 kg fish caught by James Redfern. The best catch at Latham was Pollyanna with 512 kg fish. Please remember to forward your pictures to the Fishing Secretary before the end of the month.
