FISHING SECTION REPORT
December was still a good month for the fishing scene, and many boats went out especially in the Channel Area.
The weather was very calm except for the last week of December, when the Kaskazi kicked in giving us some rough bumpy
days out at sea.
At the beginning of the month there was a large amount of Dorado in the area with Miss Linda catching 25 in a day. The
Sailfish seem to have reduced in general with only three boats catching them (Fujo Tupu, Miss Linda and Pollyanna).
One Sailfish of 27.6 kg was caught by our Junior Angler Lorenzo Folli on Fuju Tupo (Skip. Stefano Gianola) and it will
qualify for the Junior Club Record on 30 lbs. Good job guys!
One Sailfish was caught and released on Miss Linda by Luke Samaras and one on Pollyanna by Abbas during the December
Vodacom Fishing Competition.
One Black Marlin was caught in the Channel on Pollyanna by Jason Alexiou, (skip. Maddalena Martinengo).(92.9 kg).
The Wahoo seem to have moved out from the Channel with no boats catching them except for a very nice Wahoo of 27.7 kg
which was caught by Ali on Maridadi (skip. Jasper Samaras).
This month Some reef fish have made their appearance, with Maridadi catching several Yellow Spots, Bludger and Big Eye
Trevallies, Almaco Jacks, and some nice size Gts between 29 and 35 kg.
The biggest Gt was a 35 kg fish caught by Jasper on Maridadi.
The best catch in the Channel was Miss Linda with 161.6 kg of fish.
On 14th December we held a Vodacom Fishing Competition which was very successful although most of our usual fishing boats
were out of the water and our usual fishing buddies were travelling for Holidays. 12 boats entered the comp and almost
every boat managed to catch some fish. Dorado were still around and they were concentrated especially around the ships¡¦
anchorage, but they were a bit fussy making it difficult for many boats to hook them.
Only one Billfish was caught and released during the comp, and it was caught by Abbas on Pollyanna.
Pollyanna and its team made out of Jason, Spiros and Abbas (skip. Mady) caught several Dorado (11) as well, one Barracuda
and one Yellowfin placing them in first position for the Best Team, First Angler (Jason Alexiou), Second Angler (Spiros
Manoloudis) and third Angler (Abbas).
Several Juniors boats were competing and they performed very well, with Fujo Tupu and its team (Lorenzo Folli and Stefano
Gianola) placing in Second position and beating ( ƒºƒº ƒº) most of DYC¡¦s experienced anglers, catching several Dorado (9).
They also classified for the 1st Best Junior (Lorenzo Folli) and the Third Best Junior (Stefano Gianola).
Well done guys!!!!
Third best Team position was taken by Triny II (skip. Antony Haji). They ventured out a bit deeper towards Bedford and
they managed to pick up 3 Dorados and 2 Yellowfin Tuna. The Team was made up by Antony Haji, Alex, Drees and Francesco,
but the Angler of the situation was our Junior Francesco Folli who caught all the fish and qualified for the 2nd Best
Junior . Well done!!!
